Teamplay

Postby LazyDog » Thu Apr 07, 2011 5:31 pm

Maybe I'm alone on this one but I really loved playing TS in teamplay and I loved CTB. As a co-creator of the legendary Q3 team-mod Tanks and Rogues ( ) I would love to see more team features in this game. So post team feature ideas plz. Not just game modes, all features that would make teamplay cooler/better/more fun.

I have one. Synchronized stunt kill announcement (possibly with added scores). This will be triggered if a player dies while two team mates that have both dealt damaged to the killed player since they started their stunt are both still in mid air. That would be so freaking awesome.

Live and Let Own

A game type in which tag teams compete in a death match, with an added twist - that they share health. Players are tougher than in regular game play and can regenerate health by killing other players.

That sounds pretty cool, but otherwise I'd say keep teamplay simple. Straight TDM is brilliant in a balanced game. Add a few flourishes like assist points and maybe a notification for it but more than that i think is overkill.

Quoted for effect.

I loved playing with multiple team DM back in the day. It was a wonderful chaos of Hitmen vs Castors vs Agents etc... Maybe it could be more effective as Doubles/Duos? The limit of each team is 2 players, who get matching colors (since we've got "Create a Fag" in this game, right? But not bright and super obvious colors, more downplayed than most games: each piece of clothing and equipment come in different colors that look stylish but not unfashionable when put together).

The feeling would be like rejoining your partner in crime/the police department who turned on you, left you for dead and stole your woman in the beginning of the movie – and now turned back after the evil corporation killed her – and after a scene of women dying in people's arms, of manly tears being shed and serious nods being exchange it's time for going out in a blaze of glory for the final confrontation with the army of bad guys.

It could also be Co-Op vs Nali Warcows!

This sounds like a really cool idea for a very casual TDM, where you don't HAVE to play with your teammember, but if you play with him/her you get rewarded (assist points/meter/whatever). If you go the extra mile and coordinate with him/her then you're unstoppable.

I agree. This sounds very cool. It would also be awesome if everyone else's "team color" was black, or none, while you and your teammate can see who's who because of a beacon above your heads. This would make the enemies look more like mooks in a Charles Bronson movie because it wouldn't be "HEY THAT GUY IS TEAM YELLOW. THE OTHER GUY IS TEAM RED" etc but instead it would look like complete wonderful chaos to everyone except to you two. This would apply for every duo in the server, so every duo gets to feel like the good guys teaming up!

I really dig the buddy idea, but I'm curious just as to how in the hell that would work in a pub with randoms. Would it just be based on an invite of some sort via the GUI? Maybe make it a completely optional thing that you can do in almost any mode so long as you and the other player are on the same team? I dunno, I'd have to think about the system for this.

Some sort of matchmaking service possible? I don't think a nub would ruin the experience too much if it was just an ordinary game mode. Like people said earlier, you could choose to play lone wolf style but teamplay would be rewarded, like multi-teams in TS.

I would assume that before the server starts people buddy up. People who don't buddy up are placed in random teams. People who join after the game starts are placed first come first serve.

I don't think this is important at this stage of the development. :!:

I think the question of getting into servers is up for discussion:

UDK still relies on a UT3 style server browser, but that game had WIndows Live matchmaking, right? That supports partying up, right? I never play PC games anymore my PC sucks and all the good ones are casual on consoles now, anyway.
