Sweet, thanks Vino.

I'm going through old forum posts to see what models have been done already. It looks like Schmung contributed to one of the SMGs but I'm not actually sure what in the game is or is not a placeholder.

From what I can tell, the only non-placeholder gun is that mp5k? or is that placeholder too?

Here's what we desperately need as it stands:

  • 2 Player models
  • 2 Pistol models, world/view
  • 2 SMG models, world/view
  • 1 Shotgun model, world/view
  • 1 Rifle model, world/view

I left the two player models on there because the DoD guy needs to be either replaced or jazzed up (trenchcoat? glasses?) quite a lot, and the Wish model needs to be fixed with the eyes, and maybe it could use some tweaks, and both of them could use a better re-rigging.

And it would be nice to be able to tell the difference between the 2 at a distance.

Also a grenade too.

Alright, as we gain artists I'll keep track of who's doing what, so that way we can expedite this process.

I have a guy who may be willing to contribute, but he primarily uses SolidWorks and it seems that for us to even use his contributions we're going to have to do some creative file converting... it may be too much hassle but if it gets us one step closer it may be an avenue to pursue.

If he can export an obj (and just about every app can) then we can probably use his stuff.

solidworks makes meshes that are pretty much unusable for games. they can work as a high poly mesh for normal map baking though. we need to set some technical specs for these weapons so we don't have half diffuse lit and half dynamic if we go that route.

I'm in favor of diffuse lit. I don't think the source engine does a good job of dynamic lighting on weapons. Not to say it can't be done, but i haven't seen it done as well as on other engines.

I'm working on a Benelli M3 and a M61 frag, so I recommend doing something else to cover the most ground.

The developer page has been updated to reflect these new assets. What has not been started is open for anyone to start.

I'm currently in talks with a modeler I personally know. She's interested in helping me out, but I need to sit down with her and have her explain exactly what she can do. If there's any information I should give her (as I only have a small knowledge of modeling for Source) that can help her understand exactly what is expected, that would be greatly appreciated.

Best way is to play the game with her, I find a good artist can figure out what needs doing best that way.

But really though, whatever she's willing to help out with, we're okay with that. Weapon models and player models are what we need most. If she wants more info she'd be best to come and post.
