i have unwrapped and baked this finally. work is starting to ramp up now but later i'll get the dropbox info to post the source files. once it's animated and ingame, i'll texture it.

Animated? You're going to do v model animations too? IN MAYA? If so you I would be so pleased because I've got Maya installed and I've been putting off for like two weeks getting it set up to export to Source and document that process so that TRP and others can do it. I don't have much time right now and messing with tools is time consuming, I'd rather be refining and designing.

Also, if you're gonna do baked normals, doesn't that mean we all have to do baked normals? Otherwise each gun might differ too much in style and whatnot...

no. the reason why i said to do beveled edges + heightmap is because it allows for content to mix well with baked normals without needing baking. you can add baked content into the game without it looking out of place.

so yeah we should be able to mix baked content and beveled lp + heightmap no problem. any texture artist that doesn't suck will be able to make them very close in style.

TRP can animate, he just needs a hands rig to do it on. I could set it up but man, that's not on top of my favorite shit to do list. Can you get a hands rig with the weapon ready for him to animate?
