Name change and Greenlight?

Postby thigz » Mon Jun 24, 2013 5:44 pm

Hi guys, it's so nice that the developer(s) of The Specialists are making a new game based on action gameplay :D
But come on, this name is so strange and long.. "Double Action: Boogaloo". Can't get much people attention with this name :S I know it's not so important but come up with a better name devs. Also, consider putting the game on Greenlight so people can vote to be on Steam! I know it's early alpha and all but there's an early access on steam, also this could get a lot of players to play the game.
And thank you to the devs that are making a game like this! :D

Personally I love the current name. I'm going to be sorely disappointed when the next stable version is ready and the "Boogaloo" part gets dropped. It's like a really B-grade engrish action figure name, which is all the appeal.

Also please don't put this on greenlight just yet. It needs a loooooot of work before it is ready for that kind of exposure, I think the kickstarter proved that. The maps need to be practically overhauled for visuals, and it requires a lot more custom content. Besides, are you even allowed to use Valves content in a greenlit game? Do they allow mods on greenlight?

Thanks thigz. I'm glad you like the game. And don't worry, we'll change the name... just wait a little while ;)

Greenlight is a good idea and something I hadn't really thought of. Do they allow mods on Greenlight? I don't know. We're not selling it, does that affect anything? Would Valve distribute us even if we're not selling it? They distribute other free games. Really, when it's time to release I'll talk to them and see what they say, I know a few people there and they could probably shed some light on the situation.

I really hope we can get to a version titled Super Double Action.

YES.

If the Kickstarter had gone through the next name would have been chosen by a backer, but as it stands I'll probably put it to community vote.

Given the recent trend towards the whole bloodsport thing, Double Action: LIVE! would be a contender.

I'm about three months late, but Greenlight does allow mods. Cry of Fear was greenlit many months ago and was released on Steam for free. Sven-Coop is getting a similar treatment, and Black Mesa Source was greenlit will be released for free on Steam after it's all done. The only issue being that Steam Greenlight does require a $100 fee to put things up on it, and then you have to get it voted high enough. I don't think $100 would be hard to raise funds for, though.

Hello,

Longtime AHL fan and I wandered in from your greenlight page. Looks like fun. I'll download it later when I can and give it a try. But I'm curious, I read the other thread where you said you didn't want to name the game the Specialists because of the original developers on the Specialists preferred not you not to. Did the Action Half-Life/Action Quake 2 people let you name your game after theirs instead? Or is that going to be part of the name change?

I don't think Double Action was named after AHL, at least I never made that connection till now. This thread was about changing the "boogaloo" part of the name. I like the Boogaloo though, I'm glad it stuck.

I may have mentioned already before in this thread that the Double Action part of the name will remain between versions and the Boogaloo part will change right after we release on the 31st. The next version will be called Double Action: Blastravaganza or something else, I don't know yet.
