[CRASH] hl2.exe stops working - "libcef.dll" related?

Postby Payback » Sun Jul 27, 2014 2:20 am

I installed it (and update), and the SDK. But when i try to start it with the desktop shortcut i get a message about a mission gameinfo.txt.
When i try to start it via steam i can see the start screen for a few seconds and it says "hl2.exe" has stopped working and something about a "libcef.dll"

Try restarting steam and then run it from your steam library. That shortcut might not be configured yet.

You need to install the full version not the patch.

I did that, but the game crashes with hl2.exe has stopped working.

I downloaded

Double Action: Boogaloo Kappa Plus 7/24 Windows and Double Action: Boogaloo Kappa Plus 7/24 UPDATE. Aren´t these the right files?

Just the Windows one is fine, the one that's an executable file. You don't need the update. Once you install that you should be good to go.

So, i tried it again. I downloaded and installed "Boogaloo Kappa Plus 7/24 Windows" and "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer" then, restarted steam and started the game from Steam Library. But 2 Seconds after the title screen shows up, the game crashes. (hl2.exe has stopped working). I did not install the update this time. :(

Update:

As weird as it may sound, but deleting the file "libcef.dll" from "\Steam\SteamApps\common\Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer\bin\" seem to have fixed the problem. I could start the game, and play.

Yeah im glad too. I used google to try to find a solution, and in an very old post on the steam forums i´ve found a user with the same problem, (but with another source game). He deleted that file out of rage, and his game worked, lol.

Anyway, Double Action Boogaloo is an awesome game, it reminds me of the good times i had with Action HL and The Opera back then. I wish you good luck with green light. Already voted for you.

Editing title of thread to reflect the nature of the crash.

We've got somebody on Greenlight reporting a similar problem with Boogaloo (I think). Hopefully this thread helps that get resolved.

That report doesn't have much information, but I'm leaving it here for posterity:
