Can't launch the installer?

I really want to play this game, but every time I try to run dob_install, I get an error message saying I need Steam to play. I have Steam, and it's running on my computer when I try. I don't have a lot of experience installing mod-things like this, so maybe I'm just being silly and doing something wrong. Any help?

Tried simply reinstalling Steam over existing Steam?

Restart your computer. Playing cracked Steam games usually prevents you from playing legitimate games until you do so.

If restarting doesn't work, try using the Linux installer that's on ModDB (the Windows installer is embedded in it). To install that version, follow these instructions: http://www.moddb.com/games/half-life-2/tutorials/installing-a-mod
