Instructions on setting up a server?

Postby pelucassabe » Fri Jun 21, 2013 7:03 am

Hi, me and some friends downloaded this game, and we want to try it online. The thing is i really don't know how to set up an online server (so far we have played lan), and i don't really know what to do with the "setting up your own server" files.

So if somebody could post a walkthroug of how to set it up, or link me the instructions (I've tried google and this forum) it would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Here are the Valve Developer Wiki and srcds.com which are both good but incomplete guides for setting up a mod, which is slightly different. Double Action is based on the OB engine, FYI.

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wik ... ted_Server
http://www.srcds.com/

Here's a tool I found on Google that may help.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/shift/downloa ... erver-tool

I'm trying to see if I can get anyone who knows how to set up a guide.

Thank you very much, I'm tinkering with that tool you posted. Will let know if it worked and write down the process too.

When you load up DA and hit Create Server, all the settings are set to be played online, but after you load the map you must do changelevel so the settings kick in again for the server to appear on the list. It will work if your ports are forwarded if on a router (27000 to 27050 UDP & TCP), if directly connected through modem you're fine.

Is the current DA release (2013-09-15) based on OB Source DS? or 2013 Source DS? I saw in mentioned somewhere that it was "Orange Box" (OB), but also somewhere else that it was 2013? That is obviously contradictory.

I am trying to get a headless Linux dedicated server setup, so the question is:
  • HLDSUpdateTool (to get base "Orange Box" installation)?, or is it ...
  • SteamCMD (to get based 2013 Dedicated Server installation)? - in which case, what is the correct AppID? (244310?)

I checked-out that thread and did everything with the typical SteamCMD setup.
Also did the 2 additional symbolic links specified.

Specifications / Options Used (similar to other 11 games runs on the same server):
  • Server type: Stand-alone Dedicated Server
  • Install type: "head-less" install (no GUI, no X-Server)
  • Operating System: Debian
  • OS Version: 6 ("Squeeze")
  • OS Arch: 64-bit (32-bit libs installed also)
  • OS Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-042stab079.6 on x86_64
  • SteamCMD install folder: ~/steamcmd
  • "Force_Install_Dir" folder: ~/game407
  • "dab" folder: ~/game407/dab

SCRCS is seg-faulting - complaining about GLIBC.

Yes that's a known issue with some Linux distros. Working on fixing it. If you have some compiling knowhow you could try building it yourself, but otherwise you'll have to wait until I have time to work on it. Sorry :(
