I'm Australian. I'm in Canada atm though. Afaik there's no Aussie servers, but maybe we could ask games.on.net to host one after the steam release? They have featured us in their news roll twice now and seem to be top blokes.

I just launched an Australian server! It's called DAB Australia, you'll see it on the server list.

We plan to add a few features to the server, such as style weighted ranking systems, custom maps and optional player handicaps. We want to keep it as tasteful as possible so it won't differ much from the stock game if at all.

Awesome man, we really need an Australian server. How long are you going to keep it up? Can you keep it up after the steam release?

As long as possible, I have a couple months of funding set aside for it.

I was wondering, are there or would it be possible to add server options disabling the vote kick / map vote on a server? I'd rather implement my own stuff there so I can set admin immunity/random map rotations.

I also noticed, when in super fall you have to aim above the player to hit them, is that just because I've messed with the servers rate settings? I'd test it but I've got no one to test it with at the moment.

Messing with the rate settings on server or client is in general a bad idea. Here's an explanation why:

You need the lag compensation especially during superfall. It sometimes seems like it produces the wrong result, but in real gameplay settings it reduces the perception of lag. I would leave all that stuff alone.

edit: also, try sv_allow_votes 0

Even with the rates on default I still have to shoot like a meter above the player to hit them.

Edit:

Actually it seems only in very rare cases it will do that.

Man I have lurked games.on.net since like 2007 - I used to abuse their unmetered files library. They pretty much got me into modding and games dev. If they put up a DA server I might just die.

Hopefully they do..

Unfortunately, if it continues like this I can't continue to afford running the entire Australian player base. It's just too much and I'm not getting any donations. I can't afford $100 a month. My servers will probably shut down at the end of the month, two months max. Unless people start helping me fund it.

Australian hosting is expensive.

They can try, this is the cheapest I could find. Hardware is cheap but the bandwith limits are just too much in Australia.

I'll see what I can do, just don't get the hopes up too much.
I also will need to figure out how we're gonna price the australian server.
Seeing as the prices are substantial compared to the rest of the world.

Yeah Australia only just got dial up. Up until last year our internet consisted of two tin cans with a string in between. Loving this Canadian 3.5mb/sec internet.
